What exactly does a pothole mean?

Potholes belong among asphalt roadway surface faults. They are not only caused by climactic effects, but also loose discipline in following the technological process is at fault.

Potholes are usually formed when temperatures above zero alternate with sub-zero temperatures, and, when due to water freezing inside the cracks and gaps, the impairment of the wear constantly occurs. Due to the traffic load, the impaired asphalt layer is completely damaged and a sharply bordered fault – a pothole – is formed.

A continuous increase in the surface area and depth of these potholes subsequently occurs, as well as expansion to the roadway surface plane, disintegration and wear, or, eventually, the total dissolution of asphalt layers and the roadway.
